Law & Policy Experience

I am a licensed attorney in the District of Columbia who works on federally-funded projects relating to health law, regulations, and policy. Previously, I have worked on civil rights litigation and public policy advocacy matters at national nonprofit organizations, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division (Housing & Civil Enforcement Section), legislative bodies, international NGOs, and private civil rights firms. Some relevant experiences include:

  • Drafting a petition for a writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court seeking to apply McGirt v. Oklahoma retroactively.

  • Conducting legal research and drafting successful motion in limine for a case, which on appeal, established patients’ rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to keep their psychiatric service animals with them in hospital settings.

  • Investigating and writing a complaint on behalf of people subjected to police brutality and misconduct at Black Lives Matter protests in Summer 2020.

  • Creating guidance documents for doctors communicating best practices for writing accommodations letters for pregnant people.

  • Providing expertise to local, state, and national stakeholders about disability policy in light of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, advocating for increased funding to non-carceral and non-coercive community-based services.

  • Editing a volume published by the UN Sustainable Development Goals Fund about women’s rights and security to inform practitioners and scholars about emerging practices in human rights law.

  • Running a national-level campaign in the UK Labour Party to prioritize mental health, leading to the creation of a shadow ministerial position for mental health.
